Abydos Dynasty of Egypt

Egypt History - Egyptian Chapter Decoration

Background

The Abydos Dynasty of Egypt is a hypothesized dynasty that is believed by some archaeologists to have ruled over Upper Egypt during the Second Intermediate Period between 1650 BCE and 1600 BCE. This would have made it a contemporary of the Fifteenth and Sixteenth dynasties. Overall this period is marked by significant social and political strife which ultimately leads to the Seventeenth Dynasty and finally the New Kingdom of Egypt.
